The contribution of all Sappers in the Royal Engineers who became Bomb Disposal crew.

In special memory of my Dad, Cpl Alan L Porter RE who landed on Sword Beach, Queen Red Sector, Lion sur Mer on 7 June 1944 with the O i/c.  Always thinking of you and what you went through in 1944.

 

On the evening of June 6, 1944, the British had a bridgehead about 8 kilometers deep to the west of the Orne river, as far as the village of Biéville-sur-Orne, only 5 kilometres from Caen.

​

7 June 1944 “O i/c disembarks on Queen Red beach and reports to CRE 101 BSA. Recce made of 46 SD20 (41 fuses) and 3 50Kg SC bombs (55 fuses) on beach. Recce made of 6 shells. 4 shells dealt with.”
